Mexican Girl - Smokie

 

66년 보컬리스트 '크리스노만'을 주축으로 영국에서 결성된 스모키(Smokie)는

70년대 후반에  사이키델릭 팝으로 영국 차트를 여러 차례 강타하였다.

Elizabethans라는 그룹에서 함께 연주하던 크리스 노만(Chris Norman, 보컬),

테리 어틀리(기타), 앨런 실슨(베이스)은 드러머 피트 스펜서와 함께 1968년 밴드 카인드니스(Kindness)를 결성하였다.
이 4인조 밴드는 1960년대 후반에서 1970년대 초반까지 상당한 양의 싱글을

발표하였으나 차트에 오르지는 못했다.

1975년 이들은 스모키(Smokey)라는 이름으로 새로운 레코드사와 계약을 맺은 후 'If You Think You Know How to Love Me'라는 곡을 차트 3위에 올려놓는 성공을 거둔다. 'Don't Play Your Rock 'N Roll to Me'가 톱 10 히트를 기록한 후 이들은 이름을 스모키(Smokie)로 바꾼다.

76년 이들은 5위를 기록한 'Living Next Door to Alice'를 포함하여 세 곡의 톱 20 히트곡을 냈으며, 이후 'It's Your Life'(1977), 'Oh Carol'(1978)이 톱 5를 기록하였다.
그러나 이들의 차트 등장은 1980년대 초에 막을 내리게 되고, 82년 [Midnight Delight] 앨범을 끝으로 해산하였다.

크리스와 피트는 1980년대에 다른 뮤지션들에게 여러 곡을 써주었다.

Her skin was soft as the velvet sky and her hair
It shone in the moon light
And as the music did play well the night
turned to day and I held her tight

Then she looked at me with her dark brown eyes
And she whispered hastalavista
Well I don't know what she means
But it sounded so good so I kissed her
